Octomark

Octomark Privacy Policy

Effective date: 24 October 2026 · Version 1.0

The short version

The rest of this policy explains these points in detail. It is written for parents and for students. If anything is unclear, email us at support@octomark.app.

1. Who we are

Octomark is published by [FULL LEGAL NAME], a sole trader registered in Portugal (tax number [NIF]).

For the small amount of personal data described in section 5, the publisher is the "controller" under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the person responsible for the protection of personal information under Quebec law.

2. What the app does, and does not do, with data

Octomark is a reference and practice app for students aged 11 to 16 and their parents. It explains, in our own words, what school assessment criteria ask for, and lets students practise with quizzes and written tasks.

3. Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions are bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play, using your Apple Account or Google account. Apple or Google processes your payment, issues your receipt and keeps the purchase records. For that processing they are independent controllers, and their own privacy policies apply:

The app receives from the store only what it needs to know whether your subscription is active, such as the product bought and the renewal date. This information stays on your device.

For accounting and tax we receive sales reports from Apple and Google. Apple's reports contain no personal data. Google's reports may contain an order number and the buyer's country, region and postal code, but no name or contact details. We use these reports only for accounting, keep them for as long as Portuguese tax law requires, and do not combine them with anything else.

Apple's Family Sharing and Ask to Buy, and Google's Family Link purchase approval, are features of the stores. We receive nothing from them. If the law where you live requires a reminder before a free trial becomes paid and the store does not send one, the app shows that reminder itself, on your device, without sending anything to us.

4. Age signals required by some US states

Some US states (for example Texas, and from 2027 California, Alabama, Utah and Louisiana) require app stores to tell an app the age category of the account holder and whether a parent or guardian has approved the app. When Octomark starts, it asks the App Store or Google Play for this signal. Where the law requires it, the store answers; elsewhere it does not, and the app simply works as usual.

The signal is used only on your device and only to apply age-related rules, for example to hold back a new feature until a parent approves it in the store. It is kept in the app's memory only while it is being checked, is never written to storage, and is never sent to us or to anyone else. We never receive or store it. We also give the stores an age rating for the app and for the subscription, with the reasons for it, as these laws require.

5. When you email us

If you, or a parent or guardian, email support@octomark.app, we receive your email address, your message and your name if you include it.

We never sell personal data and never share it for advertising.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (the EU or EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada including Quebec, or a US state with a privacy law), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy of it, and to withdraw consent. Because the only personal data we hold that we can link to you is email you sent us, the simplest way to use these rights is to email support@octomark.app and ask us to delete or send you your messages. We answer within one month.

You can also complain to a supervisory authority. In Portugal this is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD, www.cnpd.pt). In the United Kingdom it is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in Quebec the Commission d'accès à l'information, and elsewhere your local authority. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first.

8. Children's privacy

Octomark is intended for students aged 11 to 16, together with their parents. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (United States) or under the age of digital consent where you live. The app has no features that let a child enter or share personal information. Subscriptions are bought by the account holder, usually a parent, who can also use the store's parental approval features. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We publish changes in the app and on octomark.app with a new effective date. If a change matters to you, for example if the app ever started to collect data, we would say so clearly in the app before the change takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for consent first.

10. If Octomark moves to a company

The publisher may transfer Octomark to a company owned and controlled by the same person. If that happens, this policy continues to apply without change to your rights. The only personal data that would move are support emails still within the retention period in section 5. We would update the publisher's details in this policy and tell you in the app and on the website.
